What role does Baptism play in the eternal salvation of a person ?  Roll Eyes

Actually, we are not saved by the ritual itself but by "grace through faith." As St. Paul would say: "For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith; and this not from yourselves. It is God's gift, not by works, so that no one can boast".

Therefore, baptism by water does not save us; however, the baptism of the Spirit is necessary for salvation and that has nothing to do with water. Also, it is not something that we do for ourselves. It is God's gift to us at the moment we are born again and our identification with Jesus.
